It is widely being reported that Snoop Dogg has changed his stage name to Snoop Lion. The name change came about from a recent trip to Jamaica. While in Jamaica, Snoop Lion visited a Rastafarian temple where the head priest asked him for his name, when he replied 'Snoop Dogg' the priest is reported to have said, “No more. You are the light; you are the lion.'

The lion, or more correctly the Lion of Judah, is an important symbol in the Rastafari movement.

Snoop Lion now joins that ranks of Chad Ochocinco, Jon Stewart, and Metta World Peace and others who have changed their stage name. The musician Prince changed his name

from Prince to the Artist Formerly Known as Prince to eventually change it back to Prince. Snoop Lion started his career as Snoop Doggy Dogg, then shorten it to the more professional sounding Snoop Dogg and now to Snoop Lion.

The Lion of Judah is a central figure in the Imperial Flag of Ethiopia, a flag used by Rastafarians.
